Sustainability

Minimising our impact, maximising our purpose

Sustainability is woven into everything that we do at Bumboo. From the fabrics we create, the people we work with, to the way we choose to grow as a business: we are committed to creating a brand that’s kind to the planet, empowering for its people, and built to last.

The global fashion industry accounts for:

~10% of total global carbon emissions[1]

More than 1.7 billion tons of CO2 produced each year[2]

Half a billion kilograms of micro plastics released each year, threatening aquatic life and human health[3]

85% of clothing ending up in landfills each year – textile waste is a mounting challenge[4]

More than 75 million factory workers, with less than 2% earning a living wage[5]

Our sustainability movement at Bumboo is underpinned by three core pillars: environment, ethics, and economics.

Environment - softer on you, gentler on the planet

Comfort shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet. Every pair of our Bumboo underwear is made from silky-soft bamboo lyocell – responsibly sourced, ethically produced, and designed to last. We choose our materials thoughtfully and, as part of our comfort evolution, will continue to explore new sustainable options as the science evolves.

Discover the science

Our goal is simple: to reduce environmental impact, minimise waste and to create products that last longer without the compromise on style or softness.

Our eCommerce experience is designed to be mindful too, with a website deliberately designed to reduce our server demand and to lower energy consumption. This makes your online shopping and activity more responsible too, just like the products you’ll receive at home.

Sustainability isn’t a destination, it’s a journey. So at Bumboo we’re always evolving. We’re constantly looking for new ways to reduce waste, extend product life, and to give back. Working alongside Innovate UK and UKFT, we will continue to push the boundaries of fashion and textile innovation, integrating new biotechnologies and scientific developments into the world of sustainable clothing.

Ethics - responsible production

Comfort with conscience. We are built on a foundation of care – to the planet, its people, and to ourselves. Compassion and respect are woven into everything that we do, and we demonstrate this through our ethics and commitment to transparency at each stage of our process.

We partner with trusted, certified factories that share our values: fair pay, safe working conditions, and respect for each individual who helps to bring our designs to life. As part of our commitment to transparency, we’ve joined forces with Fashion Revolution in their “Who Made My Clothes?” campaign – a movement that celebrates the hands and hearts behind what we wear. Through this, we shine a thankful light on the talented creatives and craftspeople who help to make our vision possible.

Meet the Makers

Our ethical approach is key to the Bumboo comfort evolution – as true comfort begins with fairness, from the first stitch to the final fit.

Economic sustainability - value with Integrity

At Bumboo, our sustainability agenda goes beyond people and planet – and it focuses on purpose and progress.

The premium price of our underwear reflects this drive, and includes the quality our products hold, the ethical values we keep to, and the cutting-edge scientific solutions we’re weaving together. Each pair of underwear honors environmentally-certified materials, fair labour, and low-impact production. We don’t cut corners, and our curves embrace quality, ethics, and accessibility every time.

Our economic model is built to last – ensuring we can work ethically, reduce environmental impact, and continue innovating toward a more sustainable future. When value meets integrity, true progress can be achieved.

Bamboo lyocell fabric

Softness with substance. Our bamboo lyocell is cloud-soft, breathable, and backed by science – made in a closed-loop process that reuses 70% of water and solvents. Comfort you can feel, science you can trust.

More sustainable stretch We use CREORA® bio-based elastane to give Bumboo underwear its comforting stretch, made with 30% fewer petroleum-based inputs than conventional elastane. The bio-based portion comes from renewable cornstarch and soon, sugarcane - giving a whole new meaning to Sweet Cheeks.

Labels that care

Goodbye scratchy labels, hello long-lasting comfort. We digitally print our care labels onto the fabric, reducing material usage and eliminating last-minute plastic introduction. We also point you to clevercare.info to keep your Bumboo underwear feeling fresh, wash-after-wash.

The comfort evolution

We’re evolving with innovation. Our fabrics and elasticated trims are already soft and secure, and we’re continually exploring next-generation solutions to make them even more comfortable, durable and, of course, sustainable.

Feel good. Look good. Do good.

Softness that comes from nature, science, and human care. We’ve thought about every step of your underwear’s journey, so you can feel the comfort and live life in full colour.

Size guide – let’s find your perfect fit!

Find your perfect fit with Bumboo

We’re here to make sure your Bumboo undies feel just right — comfy, flattering and made to move with you. Getting the best fit starts with knowing your measurements, and we’re here to walk you through it, step-by-step.

Start with the real you
To get the most accurate fit, we recommend measuring your actual body rather than over clothes. Grab a tape measure and take it slow – this is your moment.

Waist:
Wrap the tape around your natural waistline – that’s the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above your belly button. Keep it snug but not tight.

Hips:
Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and bum. This is the widest part, so don’t be shy – we want to embrace those curves and find that true-to-you fit!

Now, compare your measurements with our size chart.

Sometimes your waist and hips may sit across two sizes – that’s totally normal! For example, if your waist is 26 inches (a Small) and your hips are 38 inches (a Medium), we’d suggest:

  • Size S for a firmer, snugger fit
  • Size M for a more relaxed feel

Pick based on what makes you feel best – whether you like your knickers to hug or a more gentle-level of support.

A little extra fit advice from us:

  • Between sizes?
Size up in our Basic bikini and Thongs if you’ve got a curvier figure.
Size down in our High Rise styles if you’re on the smaller side.
  • Size XL or above?
Our fabric has amazing stretch and softness – in sizes XL and up, we recommend sizing down for the perfect hold.

Still unsure? Don’t stress! Our team is always here to help you find your Bumboo panty paradise!
